    Description

    Guaranteed authentic Victorian Perforated Paper Embroidery piece.  Signed in the piece DELIMA and on the back of the frame Delima Pare 1884. Original frame. Framed size 9" x 21".
    Popular for about a century from 1820-1920, these simple craft items were often done by young girls in the same vein as alphabet samplers. Completed in a variety of stitches they were treated as artful demonstrations of ability. Still made today, they have enjoyed a bit of a resurgence in recent years as handcrafts have become popular again. There are kits available online and this is an echo of the past as well. complete kits for these were some of the earlier craft kits available by mail in Victorian times, with the perforated paper printed with the design, and the assorted coloured yarns provided.
    Materials: Embroidery yarn, perforated paper pattern, traditional tin foil backing and frame painted wood and glass.  This one carries the french legend for WELCOME:  Soyez Les Bienvenus.
